STORY FROM 2010
The 2010 Mission of Healing was good work, hard work, Spirit-filled, challenging, and a beautiful expression of the relationship that we share across borders as people who need healing and people who God uses to heal.
This year's mission delegation included 26 lay and professional healers from Wisconsin, Minnesota and Arizona. There were doctors, nurse practitioners, dentists, nurses, translators, teachers, pharmacists, a bishop, massage-givers and vision testers. St. John's, Brookfield, Cross of Life, Brookfield, and French River, Duluth, provided leadership for the group.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Since 2000, St. John's has teamed up with the Lutheran Church of El Salvador and local health officials to help run a health clinic for the members of our sister community. The first medical clinic was held in the one-room church building in Los Héroes. Over the years the clinic has included classes and health-related activities for children, sex education and female exams for women, basic physical exams, basic eye exams and distribution of reading glasses, massage, Reike healing and quigong.
In 2007, Cross of Life ELCA (also in Brookfield) and St. John's teamed up with the Salvadoran Lutheran Church healing team for the to provide holistic care in two settings: The Salvadoran Lutheran Church Clinic, located across the street from Resurrection Lutheran Church in San Salvador; and a more rustic setting in San Jeronimo, north of San Salvador.
Patients begin their experience in the prayer center, with hug therapy, massage, energy healing and prayer. Patients then have the opportunity to receive medical exams, dental care and checks for reading glasses. A big part of the healing ministry continues to be the distribution of prenatal vitamins to pregnant and nursing moms and seniors, as well as to children who need them. We give calcium to all women 45 and older, and to many who suffer from calcium deficiency. We provide a pharmacy for no-cost over-the-counter medications (especially to control pain) and antibiotics for infections. We provide information to youth and adults about sexually transmitted diseases and distribute thousands of condoms. We also teach dental hygiene and distribute toothbrushes. All of the medications and supplies are donated or purchased with generous financial donations and are carried in the luggage of mission participants. And amidst the suitcases, hugs, prayers and vitamins, we experience the miraculous healing power of God.
