Sunday School

This year (2011-2012), we are using a lectionary-based curriculum published by Augsburg Fortress for our 2’s and 3’s class through 6th grade. The curriculum contains and mix of Old and New Testament stories, prompting kids to open their Bibles and explore God’s word during each lesson.

Click here to download the Sunday School registration form (age 2 through 8th grade). Please turn the form in to the Discipleship Coordinator’s mailbox or email a completed copy to discipleship@makedisciples.com. Thank you!

Each lesson is accompanied by a colorful “learner leaflet” with activities, pictures, and stories to get the kids engaged in what they are learning. The leaflets also allow parents to get a glimpse of what their children are learning in Sunday School each week.

A very special feature of the Spark curriculum is its accompanying Bibles. Each year,

St. John’s gives a new Bible to each kindergarten and third grade student who comes to the church’s ministries. The church then offers a class during Sunday School to teach the children and their parents how to use the new Bibles. Children are encouraged to use their Bibles at home, in Sunday School, and in worship.

Kindergarten students receive the Spark Story Bible, which contains abridged versions of key Bible stories, accompanied by colorful and fun pictures.

Because the stories included in this story Bible are based on the lectionary, children are able to open up their Bibles and follow along as the lector or the pastor reads the lessons each Sunday (though not all lessons will be found within the story Bible).

Third grade students receive the Spark Bible (NRSV), which contains helpful tools, maps, and notes (and stickers!) to guide students through their study of the scriptures.
